- On September 11, 2019 in Ruidoso, New Mexico, a woman, age 73, called 911 and hung up. A few minutes later a man called 911 and said he had killed his wife and he was going to kill himself. - On April 3, 2017, in Ruidoso, New Mexico, Andrew Poteet Magill, age 25, was accused of shooting and wounding a sheriff’s deputy during a struggle at a hospital. Magill has been charged with the killing of Maryann Moorhouse at a ranch in the area. A motorist picked up Magill near the ranch and, because he was so agitated, dropped him at the Ruidoso police station. Police took him to the hospital. Sheriff’s deputies went there after learning a suspect was being treated there. Magill shot the deputy in the shoulder when the deputy’s gun fell to the floor during a struggle. - On August 20, 2016, in Ruidoso, New Mexico, Ruidoso police fatally shot an intoxicated Brownfield Texas man, David Klassen, age 29, after what they called a domestic violence dispute in which he threatened residents with a rifle. Officers rescued approximately 15 people from the house before they shot Klassen after he ignored repeated orders to drop his rifle. Source: Ruidoso News
- On July 27, 2016, in the White Mountain Wilderness, New Mexico, which is part of the Lincoln National Forest, US Forest Service officials found a man with an apparent self-inflicted single gunshot to the head. Later, the state police received a call from the Lincoln County Hospital that they had 2 males with gunshot wounds.
